Glamorama 2010

This past Friday, August 6th, marked my first ever Glamorama. It's part fashion show, part music performance, part charity, all put on by Macy's.

The designers featured in the fashion show included illustrious names such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace, Sonia Rykiel, Roberto Cavalli, Marc Jacobs, and a handful of others. I have only ever seen snapshots of these high-calibre designers' creations on a computer screen or in magazines, so to see them up close and in person was exhilarating!

Glamorama is also a benefit for the Children's Cancer Research Fund (CCRF). Each year a different youth ambassador is selected, and this year it was Emma Laehn, who had cancer when she was just a few years old. Now, at 13 years old, Emma is cancer-free. Christopher Straub is the designer who was chosen to dress Emma for Glamorama. Before the event, Christopher and I went to Macy's and he pulled different options for Emma ranging from totally glam to rocker-chic. Emma picked her favorite outfit as well as an accessory from Christopher's own line. You can see KARE11's piece on Christopher and Emma, or read the Pioneer Press article about them by Allison Kaplan. Emma and her family have been through a lot, and they are such kind people. I enjoyed getting the chance to meet them.

Christopher and I at the Glamorama pre-show party at the Seven Skybar

For this event I wore a fantastic architectural faux ostrich leather top from Christopher Straub's F/W 2010 collection. I adore the angular shoulders of this piece! I paired the top with my own BCBG Max Azria black tube skirt. A Christopher Straub Petals Handbag in Black completed my look for the night (it's the perfect size to fit everything I need--even my DSLR!).

I thoroughly enjoyed Glamorama itself. The opening costumes were created by Chris March, a Project Runway Season 4 alumnus. The fashion show was a dream to watch for me, and the musical performances by Eric Hutchinson and Macy Gray were also a treat. We had the best seats in the house (in my opinion) for the show itself so I was able to get some great pictures.

The afterparty was an amazing atmosphere to be in, too. It was kind of a 'down the rabbit hole' whimsical woodland theme. The VIP area, complete with Macy's backdrop for pics with Macy Gray, Eric Hutchinson and other celebs, was located out on the rooftop. Great parties with great people make for awesome photos :)
